What's Wrong With Multi-Level Marketing?

a.k.a. MLM as said by Dean Van Druff,

"Let me tell you about an incredible ground-level business opportunity," and you are invited to a house or to lunch for "a discussion." Funny enough, you feel sick in your gut that there is some hidden agenda or deception. "Probably a multi-level marketing (MLM) organization," you think. Suppose it is? Should you trust your instincts? Is there anything wrong with MLM?
This article which was written by him (Dean Van Druff) is a great article that looks into the four primary area of Multi-Level Marketing.
1) Market Saturation
2) Pyramid Structure
3) Morality and Ethics
4) Relationship Issues

My verdict would be that, Dean Van Druff has written this article with his heart.
He feels the MLM way and his article is a must read for all citizen from every walks of life.

One sentence I mean, verdict that we could use to reply to those who are in the MLM is this:
The basic question that needs to be asked is this: If this product or service is so great, then why isn't it being sold through the customary marketing system that has served human society for thousands of years? Why does it need to resort to a "special marketing" scheme like an MLM? Why does everyone need to be so inexperienced at marketing this! Is the product just a thin cover for what is really a pyramid scheme of exploiting others? But more on that later.
Now, go and have a read here at What's Wrong With Multi-Level Marketing?

hi i used to be with styn but after i found out a few things that i didint like i came. the good news is I GOT MY MONEY BACK. FULL PAYMENT AND I RETURNED THE USED PRODUCTS. HERE IS HOW, i wrote to the ministry and CC a copy to the company. THe company ppl RZ cooperation are quite nice. here is a copy to those who want to do the same

Managing Director,
Level 1, Menara HLA,
No3, Jalan Kia Peng,
50450 Kuala Lumpur.

With reference to the above matter,I... requests a full sum of RM2500 be refunded to me. I make this on the basis that

1. The company practices front loading which is illegal as I am made to understand
2. As a consumer I was not given a contract under the Direct Sales Act 1993 therefore I consider the contract void.

Please arrange for your goods to be returned.

Thank You.

Whoever this Dean Van Druff is, I find that his article showed he don't really have a good understanding of MLM. At least he did not explain well how to differentiate bewteen a good MLM and a bad pyramid schemes.

He wrote like he is very much against all MLM but without good reasons. Among some I remember:

He mentioned that the MLM is doomed by design is not really true. Most MLM failed not because of the design but because of their products. Isn't Anway is still around ?

Saturation is also NOT true. Which MLM is saturated ? The right word is STAGNANT, not saturation. In fact, no MLM Company is saturated yet.

Why are family and friends not right to be approached ? Does he mean that we should only buy products from the shop and let people we don't know to make our money instead of our own friends or relatives ? Makes on sense.

The author wrote like he is in the retail business and take MLM as his deadly competitor.

He should mention VALUE-FOR-MONEY products should come first in any business and not just attacking the MLM method.

There is nothing wrong with the MLM system. Just wrong with some unscrupulous people like those in the RZ/Lampe Berger business.

Argh....I should write my own book on MLM before more people learnt the wrong things !!

I'd say there are good companies and bad MLM companies just as in any other sphere of business.

For example I have lots of regular customers in the USA for the premium dog food I retail.

As for the marketing. There's a good case to be made that all entrepreneurs should learn from the faculty at Success University.

It's interesting to see just how pervasive virtual memory has become in our lives. It seems like everytime I turn my head, I see something with a card slot or USB jack, haha. I guess it makes sense though, considering how cheap memory has become as of late...

Gahhhhh... who am I to complain. I can't make it through a day without my R4 / R4i!
